new 27 inch IMac requires proprietary SSD

Okay, everybody knows that apple  is obsessive compulsive and hates people who modify their products. Here's an example. The 27 inch imac has two drive bays. Buy a SSD from apple and you can install it in the second drive bay. Well, whats to stop you from saving money by buying a SSD from somewhere cheaper and installing it yourself? You'll be needing a mounting bracket and a couple of cables that are only supplied with Apple's own SSD.

I predict that knock off adapters and cables will soon be available.

Hybrid ssd-hard drive boosts lenovo laptop performance

The lenovo IdeaPad Y460 and Y560 coming in March has an option to add a SSD to its already present hard drive. The SSD and the HD seem like one drive to the OS. The SSD acts like a large secondary cache. A 67% increase in win 7 boot speed and overall responsiveness is very nice.

Hybrid SSD-Hard Disk Device

This is a very good idea. Daisy chaining a SSD to a hard drive and making the hard drive function as a big cache.

I hope the chinese make cheap versions!
