Smart bro share it versus smart bro prepaid
I have Smart bro share it. At home I can get 1.3 mbps during off peak hours which doesnt happen often. More common is ~ 400 - ~ 600 kbps. In my office in san fernando pampanga, I'm lucky to get ~ 200 kbps. So I borrowed a white smart bro prepaid plug it, model Huawei E1553, and tested both in my office
Using 2 different HTTP downloads, one accelerated by orbit downloader, prepaid plug it was able to do 1-1.3 mbps. Although I admit I only watched the 1.3 mbps as it was downloading for maybe 10 seconds or so until I got impatient. For Share it, ~ 200 kbps. Net browsing is faster and snappier on the plug it of course.
Now lets try the share it sim in the plug it modem. On running the smart bro application I get a text message: "Unable to process request. Please call our Smart Hotline at *888 using your celfone". Upon trying to connect, I got an error "error 619:A connection to the remote computer could not be established ... " etc etc.
Ok lets try the huawei b933 share it modem with the smart bro prepaid sim card. Of the 4 lights, the first 2 are yellow which is normal. The 3rd light which is signal strength is green so OK. The last light should be bright blue but it shows 3 seconds off with a short blue flash. No internet. Ok this might mean the share it router is locked. Going to 193.168.1.1, the modem says no connection.
There were reports that since the huawei b933 share it router uses only 850 band whle the plug it can use 2 bands, the WCDMA2100 band in addition to the WCDMA850 band, if the 850 band was congested the plug it can switch to the other band for less congestion. So it looks likely that that is the case here.
I heard that both the sim card and the router of smart bro share it are locked. So its true.
Based on this admittedly unscientific test, I cannot recommend smart bro share it unless you live in an area with an uncongested 850 band.
Update: this is what the huawei e1533 looks like
